Google to replace Hangout with Duo video app

Tech giant Google has concluded plans to replace hangout with Duo as one of the preinstalled options on future Android phones. In a an E-mail send to all partners that install Google Mobile Services on their phones states that Google will be dropping Hangouts from the list of apps that must be bundled on upcoming phones.


The statement reads;
"Today, we are announcing that Google Duo will replace Hangouts within the suite of core GMS apps, and Hangouts will become GMS Optional for telephony products. This change will take effect on December 1, 2016".

What this means is that all Android phones produce from from January 2017 will come with preinstalled Duo instead of Hangout. This do not mean that Hangout is dead as the option to download and install it will be yours choice. So you can still download it from playstore.

For those how may not know, Duo is a video chat mobile app developed by Google, which is available on both Android and iOS. It was launched in the United States on August 16, 2016
