How to Restore your Dying Laptop Battery cell

Usually, a new laptop battery can last up to 4 hour, some other may even last more than than depending on what you are working on. But as you constantly use you system, it's battery life diminishes. For those that study physic you will remember the principal of half life.

One common thing with every battery cell is that it will eventually die someday. But there are some step you can take to prevent it from happening quickly and also there are methods you can use to restore dying battery cells if you are a laptop user.

Note that this method,  you mean not have experience in these area, but it's wiser of you to know this method as they can save you a lot of money in terms of replacement.

To do this simply follow this method

Before we begin please note that this method best works for NiCD or NiMH batteries. Do is not advisable to use this method on lithium battery


1. Freezing Method: Under normal condition, producers of battery cells warn against heating or placing it on a heat environment this is because it may cause explosion and injury to the person involve. Battery working under cool environment tends to work well and last longer. To Restore your Dying Laptop Battery cell follow these method.

Simply take out your battery from you laptop, place it in a sealed Ziploc or plastic bag than place it inside your freezer and leave it cool for about 12 hours.
Once it 12 hours, remove from the freezer and from the plastic bag and then allow it warm up until it reaches room temperature.
NOTE to prevent water from entering into the cell, be sure to wrap it in a towel and wipe away any condensation as it warms up.

After completing those process, reinsert your laptop battery and charge it completely Once charged, unplug the power and let the battery drain all the way down and then repeat the process at least 4 times: charge all the way to full, and then discharge completely. then see the magic.

2. Re-calibrating Method: This method are for those whose batteries normally never charges to 100% i.e the battery always stop at 90+% no matter how long you change it. If your battery has this problem, you can restore it's dying cell be following these methods.

Charge your battery to the max percentage it can reach and then leave it for about 2 hours to cool down then disconnect the power and let the battery drain.

You can do this in two ways first is either by let the battery run down all the way until the laptop dies or you can set it so that it goes to sleep or hibernates around 3 to 5%. Either way, you want to make sure the display stays on until it either dies or goes to sleep.

 After which you let the computer remain turned off for anywhere between 3 to 5 hours. Then Turn it back on and let it charge all the way to 100%. Following this process, you will see a dramatic turnaround in your battery cells.

On a Final note, always make sure you unplug your laptop charger once it is a 100% because leaving it plugged in after fully charge kills the battery cells.
